Controlling a process with commands
Be able to give a system (or a colleague) a sequence of instructions that reaches the goal.
Prerequisites
- ASequences and precise instructionsrequired
Everyday explanation
An automated process only understands a few commands: forward, left, right. To reach the goal, you must give the commands in the correct order.

forward, forward, right, forward takes the process to goal M. Swap two commands and the process ends up somewhere else. The system does exactly what it is told, nothing more.
Interactive
Exercise: Sketch a path on paper. A colleague is the process and stands at the starting point. You can only say forward (one step), left (turn), right (turn).
Write down the commands before you start. Execute them exactly. Does the process reach the goal? If not — which command was wrong? Change only that one and run it again. That is how developers work.
Mastery means
- Write a command sequence that takes the process to the goal
