AI in everyday life — where is it?

AI is not just chatbots. You meet it every day:

The video app	guesses which video you want to see next
The camera in the phone	finds faces, makes the picture sharper
The voice in the speaker	turns speech into text and finds the answer
The map app	works the fastest route out with the traffic right now
The spam filter	sorts the rubbish out of the email
The translation	translates text between languages

What they have in common: they guess something from patterns in a lot of data.

A good question to ask: what is it guessing, and what happens if it guesses wrong?

• The wrong video suggestion → dull, nothing more.
• The wrong route on the map → you arrive late.
• A mistake in the spam filter → you miss an important email.
• A mistake in healthcare → serious.

The worse the consequence, the more important it is that a human being checks.

Count the AIs on the way home. How many of the things you pass are built on a guess from data? Most people are surprised.
